What is PT-141 (bremelanotide)?

PT-141, known by the drug name bremelanotide, is a synthetic peptide that activates melanocortin receptors. It was developed by Palatin Technologies from Melanotan II and is sold as Vyleesi.

It is a cyclic heptapeptide. Unlike PDE5 inhibitors such as sildenafil, it acts on receptors in the central nervous system.
